How to Refer Business Funding Without Becoming a Broker

People avoid referral programs because they think they have to become a broker. They imagine collecting bank statements, arguing about NSFs, and putting “funding” on a business card. That is a different job. A referrer notices a business needs capital, makes an introduction, and goes back to insurance, payroll, bookkeeping, or software. The file work is optional. The tracked link is not.

Loanable lets you stay in that lighter role. Unique your unique partner link. Marketplace of 150+ lenders. Loanable is not a lender. Funded deals pay 50/50 of Loanable profit, Monday ACH, no minimum. If you later want to package files, the same program can pay you. You do not have to start there.

What you should not do if you want to stay a referrer

Do not quote rates. Do not tell them you can get them approved. Do not take a credit-card deposit to “start the file.” Do not advertise as a business loan broker if you are not willing to own that role and the licensing review that may come with it. Send the link. Answer “what is Loanable?” with “a marketplace, not a bank.” Stop.

Licensing is still not this article’s job

Some states care about paid credit referrals. Some are quieter on commercial-purpose introductions. Get a local answer if you are going to advertise. Using a marketplace does not create a license, and it does not erase one. It does keep you from needing to be the funder.

When the owner asks you to “handle it”

You can stay on the email thread without becoming their broker of record in your own head. You can say working capital may fund as soon as 24 hours and that SBA or large facilities up to $50M will not. You can tell them to upload full statements. The moment you start shopping boxes and negotiating offers, you have stepped into broker work. That is allowed by Loanable’s program. It is a different promise to the client. Match the promise to the work.

A boundary paragraph you can paste

“I introduce business owners to a funding marketplace. I do not set rates, collect statements unless you ask me to look at a PDF you already have, or approve credit. Loanable is not a lender. Lenders in their network of 150+ may or may not fund. Some working capital funds as soon as 24 hours. I get paid by Loanable if a file through my link funds, 50/50 of their profit, Monday ACH.” That is a referrer. Anything more is a different job.

If you find yourself on three-way calls negotiating offers, admit you crossed the line and decide whether to operate as a broker under the same program. The economics can stay 50/50 with no minimum. The emails cannot stay “just an intro.” Licensing review follows the facts of what you do, not the landing page you clicked.

Stay in your profession. Still get paid when the file funds. Join Loanable as a referral partner and use your unique partner link as the introduction, not as a new career identity.
